Hello December! Our new theme for this month of gift-giving is going to be “Gifts Your Receive When You Become a Parent”, only the gifts we will be addressing are not necessarily gifts you can physically open or hold in your hand. The gifts we are going to talk about during this month are actually feelings and emotions you have likely experienced your whole life, but not the way you experience them now that you are a parent. Having a baby changes everything, even your emotions and the way you feel about the world around you.
The first gift we are going to talk about is the gift of unconditional love. Can words even describe the overwhelming feeling of love you felt for your child the first time you held them in your arms? Sure in your life you have loved others, but think back to the very first time you saw those other people. Were you overcome with emotion? Were you completely absorbed by them? Did you feel protective of them? Did you know that no matter what you would encounter with them down the road, good or bad, you would love them forever?
The gift of unconditional love for your newborn begins even before your child is born. You experience a feeling of love like you have never felt before. Then the moment you are handed your child, that feeling is multiplied tenfold! Never in your life have you experienced such a strong and overpowering feeling of love. As the years pass by and you watch your child grow, you experience trials, celebrate milestones, and create memories. Though some days are tougher than others, you still love your child unconditionally. No matter how bad their temper is or how much they test your patience, at the end of the day hearing them say “I love you” touches your heart.
Though you have loved others in your life, there is no comparison to the unconditional love you feel for your child. On the days that require extra patience and tolerance from you as a parent, that unconditional love is the driving force helping you through. Regardless of how challenging parenting can be, nothing can take away the feeling, the unconditional love, you have for your child.
