For our Tuesday blogs throughout the month of March I will be sharing information with you about “green” baby products. Using products referred to as green, all natural, or organic shows an appreciation for the environment as well as a consciousness about the ingredients/materials used to make the product. By choosing green products for your baby, you will reduce the amount of harmful toxins your baby is exposed to as well as reduce lasting harmful effects that can be caused by chemicals in some products. To put it simply, choosing to go green when it comes to your baby supplies is the best way to provide a healthy environment in which your baby can grow and thrive.
When it comes to diapering your baby and trying to be eco-friendly you have two options. The first option, cloth diapers, is by far the more eco-friendly option. When using cloth diapers, you either purchase a quantity of cloth diapers that you will wash and reuse or you can hire a diaper service (they will deliver clean diapers to you and pick up the dirty ones to be laundered). Though some feel cloth diapers can be burdensome, it truly is the most effective way to be eco-friendly and reduce the amount of waste that will end up in landfills. The second option, using disposable diapers that have been produced using more eco-friendly materials, is likely the more convenient option for most parents. Though choosing eco-friendly disposable diapers still results in the diapers ending up in landfills, these diapers contain natural materials which are less likely to cause any type of allergic reaction to baby’s skin and require less energy to be converted for use in the diapers.
What to look for in a green disposable diaper:
Dye Free
Chlorine/Bleach Free
Fragrance Free
Sodium Polyacrylate Free – This is the gel filling inside the diapers that allows the diaper to absorb wetness. Finding a diaper that does not use this will be very difficult, I have only found two. You will find the product I recommended below uses a wood pulp, from sustainable forestry, to absorb wetness.
The first green product I would like to share with you this month is BAMBO Nature® disposable diapers. These diapers are quickly becoming the popular choice for parents seeking a more natural alternative to traditional disposable diapers. They are wonderfully absorbent, free of chemicals, and reduce the risk of allergic reaction to baby’s sensitive skin. In addition, the company that produces these diapers has gone above and beyond to use renewable raw materials in their diapers, reduce energy use during production, and reduce waste in packaging. Here is what parents are saying about these diapers:
“These are AMAZING diapers, can’t say enough good things about them. We cloth diaper at home during the day and use these at night time or when we are on the go traveling into town and can’t afford to have a leak or a blow out. The diapers are the highest quality and free of the chemicals that I refuse to put next to my baby’s bottom.”
“These are the best diapers. I was a little hesitant because I had never heard of this product but let me tell you, these diapers are ABSOLUTELY amazing. Soft, absorbent, comfortable, and eco-friendly.”
“They are so eco friendly and great for mothers who looking for a great product that is safe and doesn’t harm their baby’s precious skin. We love them and my baby hasn’t had a rash since she’s been born…”
